So you want to Volunteer ...

If you are over the age of 18 years, you may be a candidate to volunteer for the American Red Cross. You will need to call our office at 219-462-8543 ext 202 and speak with Angela Fox to make an appointment to meet with the Executive Director. You will be given a set of papers to fill out and you will be asked to complete a background check. All staff, volunteers, and volunteer candidates must complete and pass the background check.

The background check is available at http://www.mybackgroundcheck.com/ArcVts/

Once the background check has been processed, the Executive Director will call you for an interview. During this interview, you will be able to tour the facility, meet staff and volunteers, and learn more about the types of volunteer jobs exist at the Porter County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

A volunteer orientation will be held quarterly for all new volunteers to learn more about the National Red Cross, its rich history and its International component.

You will be able to participate in specific training for the area where you'd like to volunteer. You will also be able to take CPR and First Aid classes as part of your training. Disaster Assistance Team members receive specialized training in disaster management. After completing the required training, you may apply to be a National or International Disaster Team Member.

Volunteers are always needed to teach CPR classes, health and safety preparedness classes and international health presentations. Nursing and health-related career students could gain valuable experience volunteering with the Red Cross.

Volunteers are also needed for blood drives. Please click on our Blood Services page for more information.

The Porter County Chapter also needs volunteers who might like to do office work such as answering the phone, making copies, and greeting guests.

If you are looking for a rewarding volunteer position with the Red Cross, please consider being a member of the Board of Directors. For more details, please contact our office at 219-462-8543.
